For almost 60 years, Joan Eldridge and her parents have visited the gravesite of her sister each Christmas, placing a miniature Santa, sleigh and reindeer on the grave of the child who died at 18 months.Valuation process is helpful for getting known with the house price. Each year after Christmas, they collected the miniatures, carefully packing them away for the next year.his year, when Mrs. Eldridge went back to the cemetery, the Santa, sleigh and reindeer were missing.Mrs. Eldridge said she knew the ornaments hadn’t blown away because her father, Andrew ”Bus” Northcutt, had wired them to the ground. The thefts hurt Mrs. Eldridge’s family deeply, she said. In a letter to The Kentucky Post, Mrs. Eldridge wrote of her mother, 86, and her father, 90: ”Who knows how many more Christmases they will have?”

Her words proved prophetic. Last Thursday, Mrs. Eldridge’s mother, Anna Northcutt, died unexpectedly of what Mrs. Eldridge said was either a stroke or a heart attack.”I hope God can forgive the people who took the miniatures, because I can’t. Especially now,” Mrs. Eldridge said. Her sister, Jean Northcutt, died Dec. 19, 1938.Mrs. Eldridge was 9 years old, she said, but she remembers her sister’s illness and death ”as though it was yesterday.”Mrs. Eldridge said she didn’t report the theft to the cemetery owners or police because she didn’t think it would do any good.Jim Owen, owner of Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Erlanger, said theft of items placed on gravesites isn’t common, but it does happen.”If people have a child’s favorite teddy bear or something else of sentimental value, we recommend that they keep it at home and remember it there,” he said.

Owen said cemetery personnel watch for theft, but it’s often impossible to tell whether a person is a thief stealing items or a family member picking them up.”If someone says they’re a family member, there’s nothing we can do,” he said. ”We don’t know all the families.”Mrs. Eldridge said the loss isn’t a monetary one.

”The ornaments weren’t expensive,” she said. ”It was the memories that they stole.”oone County law enforcement officials are investigating the thefts of major appliances at residential construction sites.Authorities have received numerous reports of thefts of large appliances, furnaces and air-conditioning units in the past few months. Ladders and other construction equipment have been reported stolen as well.
